Joseph Osler

1796-1832

The following is the obituary for Joseph Osler printed in the ‘Wesleyan Methodist Magazine’ in 1832.

It was written by Rev John S Stamp, in a typical style for the period.

“At Oxford, Mr Joseph Osler died in the thirty-sixth year of his age. He had been upwards of sixteen years a member of the Methodist society; during which period he was enabled to retain an evidence of his acceptance with God.

He was uniform in his conduct as a Christian, and zealous in the discharge of duties devolving upon him as the Secretary of an efficient Methodist Tract Society in this city; and also of the Prayer Leaders, whose labours have been crowned with much success in the neighbouring villages.

His deportment, in every relation of life secured the esteem and affection of all connected with him. His loss will be deeply felt by the Methodist society in Oxford. His end was full of peace and hope.”
