The following is the obituary for printed in the ‘Wesleyan Methodist Magazine’ in 1828.
It was written by Rev John Fordred, in a typical style for the period.
“Richard Luff died aged seventy-seven years, at Oxford; twenty-seven of which he was a respected member of the Methodist Society in that city, and during nearly the whole of that period sustained the office of Chapel keeper.
The illness which terminated in his death was very protracted; but by the grace of God, in patience he possessed his soul; and, made:
‘Meet, through consecrated pain, To see the face, divine’.
He departed this life, testifying, that to him ‘death was gain’.”
