Hugh Price Hughes was superintendent of the Oxford Circuit from 1881 to 1884, when he encouraged real growth in the churches.

He was born in Carmarthen, Wales in 1847 and entered the Wesleyan Methodist ministry in 1867.

In 1884, he became the first Superintendent of the West London Mission, and was well known for his preaching and passionate concerns forĀ  social justice and evangelism. He died in 1902.
