Wesley Memorial Church

Stunning scale model of Wesley Memorial

This large scale model was made in 1908 by members of the congregation and first displayed at a Grand Bazaar held at the Town Hall in Oxford on April 28th – May 1st 1908.

The advert in the official handbook and souvenir for the Bazaar reads:

A GRAND MODEL
of the Wesley Memorial Church
SPECIALLY BUILT BY SKILLED ARTISANS
(who are members of the Congregation)
for
EXHIBITION AT THE BAZAAR
ACCURATELY CONSTRUCTED ON A LARGE SCALE

Affording an estimate of the Architect’s Design of the exterior more definitely than can be obtained by viewing the actual building from the narrow street level.
EVERYBODY WILL ADMIRE
the reproduction of its fine proportions, beauty of execution, particularly the ornate window tracery and lofty octagonal spire.

In 2021 the church model was  professionally cleaned, restored and installed on a new base.

Interpretation panels tell the story of the church and the making of the model.

Through the windows, visitors are invited to find interesting features in the church.
